Despite the surge in female protagonists in film and TV, the truth is women made up only 16% of employees on the top 250 films in 2013. Despite the depressing numbers, women are still making their mark.

Carrie Tupper wrote a fantastic two-part article on The Mary Sue called The History of Women in Animation (which you can read here and here) and I illustrated here some of the amazing ladies mentioned there.

my new watercolors in the Lovely show at the Galerie Arludik in Paris until July 19th.

Thank you all so much for 1000 follows!

With the release of Lovely less than a month away, I’m thinking more and more about what I would like to do with this blog. My goals for the summer are to set up a massive queue, research and learn more about fantastic female animators, and get this blog rolling again. Thank you for sticking around so far, and here’s to 1000 more!

Don’t forget: requests and affiliates are currently open!

Rapunzel was one of my favorite fairy tales when I was little. I guess I thought she and I had a lot in common with the super long fair hair and all. Luckily I have never had anyone try to climb on mine. I imagine that would be quite painful.

Where can I find….

Etsy shops?

Interested in buying a piece you’ve seen here? Etsy is a great way to support and get great art directly from your favourite artists (especially if you don’t live in the L.A. area and can’t attend their shows)!

Not all of the artists that I post have Etsy shops, and those that do may not sell the piece you’re looking for. Keep in mind shops do update frequently, so don’t lose hope. These are the artists that currently DO have shops that you can check out:

This post will be updated if/when any others open shops.

First time seeing our proof- I’m so excited! Yay @lbove ,@claireonacloud , @mingjuechen , @victoriaying & Lisa Keene !

lisapenney asked:
My name is Lisa Penney, I'm a graduate from CalArts with a BFA in animation. I have worked in the hair and fur dept at Laika on the film ParaNorman and just this spring went on hiatus from being a costumer and puppet fabricator on Robot Chicken. I'm currently running my own etsy shop, working on writing/illustrating a children's book and working on my own art all the time.

Hi, Lisa! Thanks for sending a message in. I love finding new female animators and artists. I’ll definitely be checking out your stuff, and I suggest that my followers do too! :)

Requests are open!

I’m working on doing a better job at updating this blog, help me out and send some requests in!
